Cultivating Independence since 2007

I came to Sunrise Montessori in May of 2007, and it is a genuine pleasure to work with such caring and professional educators every day. The core of Montessori philosophy for me is the respect it shows for children and the amazing efforts they make as they work toward the full development of their minds and bodies. I have held multiple positions in the field, as an Assistant Teacher, a Lead Teacher, and, here at Sunrise, as Assistant Director. I returned to the classroom as the Doodlebugs Lead Teacher in September of 2010 and could not be more pleased to have done so. I have worked with all ages of young children, from infants to 6-year olds, although I have a special fondness for working with children between the ages of 18 and 36 months. I am AMS certified in the Infant/Toddler discipline and help train our Pre-Primary teachers during staff development and monthly staff trainings. It is my goal to help your family have a wonderful first year here at Sunrise!

Keeping Everyone on their Toes since 2013

In addition to having a BA in Psychology with over 36 hours in Child Development, I have over 20 years of experience as an Early Childhood Educator/Lead Teacher (Infant/Toddler Master Teacher) and nanny. I was also a preschool music teacher (owner/instructor of Born Musicians) for several years which I very much enjoyed. Over the many years of teaching I have studied several methods and philosophies of Child Development and teaching. The Montessori Method best matches my own philosophy of teaching – children learn best through play, having large uninterrupted blocks of time to explore and discover on their own, with windows of opportunity for specialized learning unique to each child, just to name a few. My long term goal is to eventually obtain Montessori certification in infants and toddlers. In the meantime I am actively studying anything and everything I can find regarding Montessori for infants and toddlers. There is an amazing network of educators and parents that share fabulous ideas for practical life and cognitive experiences among other activities. I am truly excited to try many of these ideas with the children as they express an interest and are developmentally ready. I feel very blessed to be a part of such a wonderful school with such talented teachers and supportive parents.

Calmly Responding with Love and Patience since 2016

Being the oldest of four children was the greatest gift I could have asked for. It inspired me to want to work with younger children! Having a child now myself, I have the best of both worlds: perspective on both sides. My first job six years ago was in child care, but I consider my experience to be much longer than that since I helped my mom so much growing up with my siblings…on the job training! I chose to work at Sunrise because it is a Montessori school. Allowing the children to make discoveries on their own, to have freedom in the classroom to choose their own work and display that independence for their learning every day is a beautiful and exciting thing to see. When I’m not working with your children to make those daily connections, I enjoy spending time with my fiancee (high school sweetheart!) and daughter and baking. I look forward to helping your children feel loved in our classroom and helping them to see how the world works around them to be the best person they can be!

Developing the Whole Child since 2016

My name is Anna Kago and I have been a teacher for over fifteen years. I attended Montessori Institute of North Texas (MINT) for my Primary Montessori certification. I also have a a Bachelor’s Degree in Design as well as a Master’s Degree of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, plus lots of experience doing what I love to do, teaching! I also enjoy spending quality time with my husband Peter, and three daughters Grace, Phyllis and Jessica. My hobbies are reading, cooking, gardening and sewing. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can make your child’s day in my classroom a better experience. I am thrilled to be here at Sunrise Montessori!

Cheerfully Guiding Children’s Eager Minds since 2012

I was born in Illinois and spent my younger childhood in Springfield, Maryland. When I was ten, my father relocated to Austin, so I consider Austin my home. I was very happy when my husband retired from the Navy and we relocated permanently back to the Austin area. I started working with children right out of high school as a way to pay for college. I viewed it as “just a job” in the beginning, but discovered I really enjoyed working with the younger children. I soon decided to get my CDA (Child Development) credential which I have held for the past 19 years. During my time as a navy wife and stay-at-home mom to my twin son and daughter, I continued with school and received my degree in Child Development. I have worked with all ages of children over the years and have held a variety of positions varying from Assistant Teacher to Lead Teacher and most recently, Montessori Lead. I joined Sunrise in 2012 as an Assistant in the Butterfly classroom. Once again I decided to further my education by earning my Montessori Credential. I feel that the Montessori philosophy best fits my own belief of raising children to be curious problem solvers and a member of a greater community. I look forward to this next chapter in my career by continuing to impact young lives in a Montessori setting and being part of the Sunrise Family!

Fostering Brilliance and Supplying Hugs since 2010

I was born and raised on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. I moved to the USA in 1988 and lived in NY for some years and then moved to London and lived there for three years before moving to Austin in 1999. Austin is now home for me, my daughter, and our dog, Bounce. My daughter, whom I am very proud of, is now a lawyer. She was the main reason for my passion to teach and be with children. Before coming to Sunrise I worked with a childcare center for ten years where I wore many hats. I was the Pre-K teacher and also trained the teachers on curriculum and classroom management. I have my CDA credentials and also my Montessori Teaching Diploma. I joined Sunrise in August 2010, and I look forward to being a positive role model for your child and making a difference in their lives. In the words of Dostoyevski, “The soul is healed by being with children.”

Guiding Students toward the Future since 2015

I come from a big family, and a small Texas town. Coming from a big extended family, we always had many children at get-togethers, which is where my love for working with children started. I moved to Austin in 2008, and a few years later, I discovered the beautiful world of Montessori education, which I had never heard of before. I immediately fell in love with the philosophy! Every single lesson, from learning their letters and numbers to self-care, has a direct and indirect purpose. It is in those indirect purposes where the child is developing a skill they are not aware of, like concentration or organization or manners. Watching the progression of a child grow more independent, self-confident and a skilled problem-solver in a Montessori environment is quite incredible. The curriculum has so many interconnecting skill sets plus it teaches children how to be a more thoughtful, caring person. I knew right away Montessori was where I needed to be, and Sunrise has been the perfect fit for me! I have been an Assistant Teacher for several years, and as of 2017, I earned my Montessori credential and was promoted to co-Lead in the Fireflies classroom. I am excited and honored to guide your children into bright and respectful members of society! “Early childhood education is the key to the betterment of society.” – Maria Montessori

Inspiring a love of learning with pizzazz and a smile since 2013

I discovered from an early age that working with young children was a calling. I loved their laughter and being able to make them see the positives in our world around them. As a teacher, I live for the “aha” moments when a child has learned something new to add to their “bag of tricks” for life. So uplifting! Feels me with pride and stokes my desire to do the same for another child. I have worked in a preschool setting as an Assistant and Lead Teacher for several years before coming to Sunrise in 2013. Since my first interview, I felt at home when I discovered Sunrise Montessori and knew that this is where I should be. I started at Sunrise as an Assistant Teacher, earned my Montessori credential and then was promoted to Lead Teacher. I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with your children. They are so bright, hard-working and curious! Please let me know if I can make your child’s day a better one. I cannot wait to see what this school year brings and how the children will grow!

Focusing on the Big and Little since 2016

I love how the Montessori method accommodates all learning styles and allows a child to learn in a way that is comfortable for them and allows them to enjoy learning. I have been working as an Assistant or Lead Teacher with children of all ages for the past 7 years, but have a special place in my heart for the toddlers! They definitely teach you to enjoy the little things in life. Their enthusiasm is contagious! My second grade teacher made such an impact in my life and at age eight, I decided that when I grew up, I wanted to be just like Ms. Hayley, eager to be teaching your children and making an impact like one that was made in my life. In my spare time, I love reading and writing, spending time with my precious niece, and trying new recipes. I am happy to be a part of this wonderful school and look forward to getting to know you and your child! It is my goal to make your child’s experience at Sunrise fun, safe and memorable.

Administration

Ms. Roxana, Director

Leading by Example since 2017

I have been a Montessori Teacher and Administrator/Trainer for almost 30 years. I am constantly seeking opportunities to learn something new and share my passion of child development and the Montessori curriculum and philosophy with others! I have an AMI Montessori credential for ages 3-6, an Associate’s in Child Psychology, and a Bachelor’s in Child Development. I have had the honor and pleasure to work alongside amazing teachers in prestigious Bilingual Montessori schools in Mexico City and Cancun, Mexico, and most recently, in a Montessori School in the Austin area. I am from Mexico, but I have lived in the US for over ten years and married my husband, Charles, in 2016. Over the years my career has grown from Assistant and Lead Teacher for children ages 18 – 36 months as well as 3 – 6 years old to Assistant Director, English Coordinator, Trainer of Teachers, and Preschool Director. Montessori education is a method that allows children to make creative choices in discovering people, places, and knowledge of the world. It is hands-on, collaborative and operates in a beautifully crafted environment of peace and respect. In short, Montessori is all about learning in a natural way for children that allows them to surpass typical levels of achievement and become a model citizen of the world. Montessori and education in general are my passions and a way of life for me and my family, with my daughter receiving her early childhood education in Montessori until 6th grade and currently studying at UTSA in Civil Engineering. My goal is to make your family’s experience at Sunrise Montessori a rich one. If I can help you in any way, please let me know!

Ms. Geo, Assistant Director

Passionately Serving Families since 2014

My name is Geovanna Meyer, however, I like to go by Ms. Geo. I was born in Laredo, Texas and raised in northern Mexico from age three to the time I was fifteen years old when we moved back to the States. I strongly believe in the Montessori method of education because it recognizes that children learn in different ways and it accommodates all learning styles. It does a phenomenal job of recreating a family structure where the children mentor and help each other. Being raised a Montessori child myself from preschool all the way to middle school, I am very much a product of my Montessori environment. I like to learn new things, master new skills, and do things well! I am an avid cyclist along with my husband, Aric — we race all major charity rides and compete. Prior to beginning at Sunrise in August 2014, I was an Assistant Director at another local Montessori school from two years. I have been working on my Human Resources degree at Concordia University, hoping to graduate next year. I feel blessed to be part of the Sunrise team as serving is my passion! To provide essential guidance and play a supportive role to our families and staff is my goal. Please do not hesitate to stop by the Office with any questions, suggestions, or just to visit with me. I look forward to getting to know you and your family!

Ms. Shannon, Owner

Working on the Details since 2006

Born in Southern California, I didn’t move to the Austin area until I was 32 years old with my husband, Rob, and 3 month old son, John, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. We LOVE living here! Texans are remarkably friendly and go out of their way to help one another, plus all the trees (beautiful) and seasons (it’s cold in the winter…woo hoo!) are a bonus. Sunrise was born when I couldn’t find a great Montessori school for my muse, John. Rob has also been influential in the success of Sunrise as well. In addition to his emotional support and laid-back nature, he is talented at fixing things (he used to help his father and grandfather make furniture and build houses) as well as designing/programming websites (the perfect spouse for a small business owner!). Although I loved being a math teacher once upon a time, I love being a business owner even more. Providing the kind of school I would want my son to attend, would like to work as a staff member, or learn as a student is an indescribable and addictive joy. My sincerest wish is that all of us here at Sunrise create exactly what you want for your child, so please let us know how we can improve your experience.
